Soccer Celebrates 2002 Season with Awards Banquet

Rachael Roth (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata HS) took home the squad's most valuable offensive player award, while sophomore defender Tieney Palmer-Klein (Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and freshman goalkeeper Karli Kopietz (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) shared defensive MVP honors.

Roth led the Golden Gophers in goals (11), assists (4), points (26), game-winning goals (4), shots (64) and shots on goal (37). She was a 2002 Second Team All-Big Ten selection. Palmer-Klein helped lead a young Minnesota defense, playing a new position for the 2002 season. Kopietz had an outstanding freshman season, compiling a 1.24 goals- against average with an .836 saves percentage. She started 16 games for the Maroon and Gold after earning the starting nod in the preseason.

Sophomore Jen Cressman (Duluth, Minn./East HS)took home the Rose Grimm Heart and Soul Award for the second consecutive season while freshman Nicki Burnie (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls HS) earned Most Improved Player and Spark Award (Super Sub) honors.
