The University of Minnesota women's hockey team defeated the Oval X- Treme, 3-2 tonight at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta. It is the second exhibition game of the season for the Golden Gophers.

The Oval X-Treme tacked on the first goal of the game when Jenna Barber scored on a 2-on-1 opportunity at 11:53 of the first period. Monica Dupuis was credited with the single assist. However, the Gophers tallied a goal of their own when Becky Wacker scored her third goal in two games at 15:21. Wacker's linemates, Krissy Wendell and Kelsey Bills set up Wacker on the goal.

The Maroon and Gold added a second goal at 9:29 in the second stanza. Kelly Stephens shot a cross-ice pass to Danielle Ashley, who was waiting on the doorstep and fired the puck in the net.

The Oval X-Treme tied the game at 7:00 in the third by Oval's Danielle Ayeast, but the tie would not last long. Chelsey Brodt scored on a slap shot at 11:48 and the eventual game-winner. Wendell tallied her second assist of the night, while the other assist was credited to Allie Sanchez.

The Oval X-Treme missed 12 players from their roster due to the Team Canada Thanksgiving Festival held in Dartmouth, N.S. The Gophers were without senior co-captain La Toya Clarke, who is also competing in the festival. The event invites Canada's top 60 players in Canada for evaluation purposes and hope to earn a spot on Canada's World Championship team.

The two teams will complete the exhibition series tomorrow night at 8 p.m. (CST) at the Olympic Oval.
