Gopher Women's Cross Country 20th at Pre-NCAA Meet

The Minnesota women's cross country team scored 527 points to place 20th in the Purple Race of the Pre-NCAA Meet in Waterloo, Iowa, on Saturday. Defending national champion and top-ranked Brigham Young won the Purple Race title with 86 points. Second-ranked Stanford won the Gold Race with 66 points.
The Golden Gophers were led by freshman Katrina Rundhaug. Rundhaug covered the 6-kilometer race in a time of 21:57.2 to place 82nd.
"Our top four runners raced very tough but overall we didn't execute as a team," said Golden Gopher head coach Gary Wilson. "We went out too hard to begin the race and that cost us."
In addition to Rundhaug, drawing praise from Wilson were Harper McConnell, Jen Hess and Zoe Nagell. McConnell placed 92nd with a time of 21:59.9, while Hess finished 107th in 22:09.6 and Nagell placed 1110th in 22:10.4.
Other Gopher finishers were Lauren Williams, who placed 136th in 22:35.9 and Carly Emil, who finished 167th in 23:03.9. Emily Brown, the Gophers' top runner in the first two meets of the season, did not finish the race.
Five Golden Gopher competed in the Open Race of the Pre-NCAA Meet. Laura Bjork led the pack with a 20th-place finish (22:20.7). Stacia Kalinoski finished 28th (22:38.2), followed by Krista Anderson in 35th (22:48.0), Amy Lindner in 45th (23:04.3) and Sarah Hesser in 47th (23:05.1).
