Gophers Well Represented at the Four Nations Cup

Natalie Darwitz, Kelly Stephens, Lyndsay Wall and Krissy Wendell represented USA Hockey well the past week, all of which played in the Four Nations Cup in Svode, Sweden. The U.S. Select Team won the gold medal, 2-1 over Team Canada in dramatic fashion. Cammi Granato scored the gamewinner in a shootout attempt, helping USA to its first gold-medal win since 1997.
The U.S. Select Team went undefeated in the four-day tournament. Team USA defeated Finland, 8-0 (Nov. 5), shutout Canada 2-0 (Nov. 6) and Sweden, 5-1 (Nov. 8), paving the way to the gold-medal game.
Individually, Wendell led the foursome with two goals and two assists. Darwitz followed with two goals, one of which was unassisted, and an assist. Wall had two assists, while Stephens tacked on a single assist.
The four return to collegiate competition this weekend when the Golden Gophers face the Brown Bears in non-conference action. The two teams start the series, Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I.
