11/22/2003 12:00:00 AM | Athletics
The Golden Gophers got on the board at 8:26 of the first period scoring on a power-play attempt. La Toya Clarke started the play passing it to Natalie Darwitz, who was positioned in the left circle. Darwitz then passed the puck to Lyndsay Wall who fired the puck from the point past MSU goalie Shari Vogt. It was Wall's second goal of the season, both of which came on power-play opportunities. Minnesota had 32 total shots attempted, including 19 on goal. The Gophers allowed one total shot, which was on goal. The lone shot did not come until 2:40 remaining in the first period.
That would be all the Gophers would muster for the game. The two teams went scoreless during the second period. The Mavericks held Minnesota to nine shots on goal, while MSU tacked on four of their own. MSU added its goal at the 1:58 mark of the third. The Mavericks' Kearstin Solberg added her first goal of the season, while Amanda Osborn and Shera Vis were credited with the assists. The Gophers had four shots on goal in the extra period, but Minnesota was unable to put the puck in the net.
The Gophers and the Mavericks will face off again at 4:05 p.m. tomorrow at All Seasons Arena.
