McCarville, a 6-2 junior center, was unstoppable in the paint connecting on 9-of-10 field goal attempts. She also added eight rebounds en route to joining Lindsay Whalen on the all-tournament team. Whalen collected most valuable player honors.
The Gophers used a 14-0 run midway through the first half to turn a 10-8 lead to a 24-8 lead with eight minutes to play in the first half. Southern California (1-2) hit a half-court shot to close within 40-29 at intermission.
Minnesota outscored the Women of Troy, 44-32, in the second half.
Whalen scored 15 points, while dishing out seven assists and grabbing four rebounds. Shannon Schonrock chipped in 13 points, while Liz Podominick came off the bench to grab 13 rebounds and score 10 points for her first collegiate double-double.
The Gophers shot 49.1 percent from the floor and limited Southern California to just 32.8 percent.
