imThe University of Minnesota Athletics Department has announced that the contract of Golden Gopher Women's Soccer Coach Barbara Wickstrand has not been renewed. A search for her successor will begin immediately.

Wickstrand spent four seasons as head coach of the Minnesota soccer program and compiled a 26-43-4 record. This past season, the Golden Gophers finished 6-10-2 overall and 2-7-1 in the Big Ten. With a team that featured just four upperclassmen, Minnesota scored 26 goals in 18 matches, the highest total during Wickstrand's tenure.

Prior to being named head coach, Wickstrand was an assistant coach with the Golden Gophers for six years and helped lead Minnesota to a pair of Big Ten Championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances. She also coordinated recruiting efforts for the Golden Gophers.

Wickstrand is a 1989 graduate of North Carolina State University and was a two-time All-American goalkeeper for the Wolfpack.

"We want to thank Barb for her effort and dedication to the Golden Gopher soccer program," Minnesota Athletics Director Joel Maturi said. "At this time, we believe the program needs to go in a new direction. We wish Barb nothing but the best in the future."
