Mitche University of Minnesota sophomore Adam Mitchell has been named collegeswimming.com's National Swimmer of the week. Mitchell had eight first-place finishes at the Georgia Invitational, posting three individual first-place finishes and was a member of five first-place relay teams. Mitchell, a native of Des Moines, Iowa, has earned this award twice in five meets this season.
Mitchell's 200-meter individual medley time of 1:58.62 was an automatic qualifying time for the 2004 NCAA Championships in March. During the Georgia Invite, Mitchell also provisionally qualified for nationals in the 100 back and the 200 back. As a member of the relay teams, Mitchell was a member of the first-place provisional qualifying teams in the 400 medley relay, the 400 free relay and the 800 free relay. He was also the Co-Big Ten Swimmer of the week, an award he shared with Michigan's Peter Vanderkaay.
Mitchell and the No. 9 Gophers defeated five teams, including No. 6 and host institution, Georgia. The Maroon and Gold won the three-day meet by a score of 1201.50 to 1185.
