Softball Signs Three to National Letters of Intent

GophersThe University of Minnesota Softball Program has announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent. Megan Arns, Lauren Pockl and Tawnie Safgren will join the Golden Gophers for the 2004-05 season.

Entering her senior season at Brainerd High School, Arns is a two-time all-state selection at shortstop. A four-year letterwinner, Arns has also been named all-conference three times during her career. She owns a .400 career batting average. Arns is a four-time all-conference selection on the basketball team and two-time honorable mention all-state honoree. She is also a two-time all-conference honoree on the volleyball team. Arns is a member of the National Honor Society with a 3.50 grade-point-average.

A native of Green Bay, Wis., Pockl is a three-year letterwinner at third base and catcher at Green Bay Preble High School. She earned all-conference honors last season as a junior and led her team with a .458 batting average. Named team most valuable player, Pockl was an honorable mention all-area honoree. She also helped lead her summer team, the Milwaukee Invaders, to the championship at the NSA Super World Series in Peoria, Ill. A two-year letterwinner on the basketball team, Pockl ranks in the top 25 percent of her class with a 3.40 grade-point-average.

A senior at Lakeville High School, Safgren was an honorable mention all-conference selection last season. She has seen time at right field and at third base for the Panthers during her career. Serving as team captain for Lakeville, Safgren is a member of the school's honor roll.
