Briggs Named Inside College Hockey Player of the Week

12/2/2003 12:00:00 AM | Athletics

Freshman goaltender Kellen Briggs (Colorado Springs, Colo./Millard North HS) has been named the Inside College Hockey Player of the Week, following his outstanding showing in the net last weekend at the College Hockey Showcase. The award follows Briggs' WCHA Rookie of the Week honor.

From INCH:
"His Statistics: 2 GP, 53 saves on 56 shots.

His Impact: After Travis Weber decided to leave the Gophers during the summer, coach Don Lucia hoped either Justin Johnson or Briggs would step to the fore. It took about a month - and a 2-7-1 start - before Briggs assumed the No. 1 spot. He solidified his grasp on goaltending duties for the defending champs last weekend, leading Minnesota to wins against Michigan and Michigan State in the annual College Hockey Showcase.

His Runners-Up: Bernd Bruckler and Brian Elliott (Wisconsin), Yann Danis (Brown), Elias Godoy (UMass Lowell), Dana Lattery (Western Michigan), Ryan Whitney (Boston University)"

The award is the first for a Minnesota player from INCH (www.insidecollegehockey.com).
