Post-Game Quotes
Minnesota Head Coach Dan Monson
?Obviously Western Illinois is in the beginning stages of their program. We know that we still have a lot of work to do, but I liked our performance a lot today. Everyone's offense is inconsistent, the teams who win, string together stops and that is what we did today. We just have to start doing it on a consistent basis.?
On Kris Humphries, ?They doubled him a lot today and he did what he had to do, he spread the ball around.?
On Aaron Robinson, ? Aaron has had two games in a row now where he disrupts the opposing point guard. I like his play, he has played very well. Both Aaron and Adam have played well as far as turnovers go, I think combined only one today. It is our big guys who need to clean up, because they are accounting for over half of our turnovers.?
On Injuries, ?Jeff tweaked his ankle, and wanted to go back in today. We did not really need him so we decided not to risk further injury. Moe is also trying to get back in rhythm from his injury as well.?
On the big ten starting, ?If the Big Ten started tomorrow I would not be happy with our play, but if you ask the other coaches, I don?t think that any of them would be happy. We are starting to learn from our earlier loses and we made good improvements today defensively that I really like.?
Western Illinois Head Coach Derek Thomas
?I was very proud today of my guys in the first half as far as intensity goes. At halftime they were sucking air so I was a little concerned for the second half. We just ran out of gas today, they were too good on the boards.?
On Humphries, ?I think he is a beast. We were proud that we were the first team to keep him under 20 points.?
On Minnesota, ?I was really impressed with their rebounding. All five of our guys would go to the boards early, but the Ben got hot and we had to expand our defense. Their good athletes, like Bauer, Moe, and Kris took over on the boards.?
Minnesota guard Adam Boone: ?I?ve been playing up and down, just like the team. I?m my harshest critic and I know when I need to play better.?
On Minnesota playing better in the second half: ?at half, we realized we realized we didn?t have our confidence and we weren?t playing well.?
On the win: ?It's a big sign of what we can do.?
On coming out playing well in the second half: ?I knew if our first five set the tone, the bench would follow.?
Minnesota guard Ben Johnson:
On his recent hot streak: ?you get a few shots, you get into a grove- my teammates really did a good job of getting me open shots and getting me the ball.?
Minnesota forward Kris Humphries: on the win: ?It's a good win, all wins are good.? ?We gotta face much harder teams, but it's a good gauge to see where we?re at.?
