Horak Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

Jody For the second time this season, Jody Horak has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week for her performance over the past weekend against Wisconsin.

Horak gave up two goals in the series against Wisconsin. She dropped a 2-1 decision Friday, but bounced back and gained her fifth shutout of the season with a 2-0 win. She stopped 47 of 49 shots on goal over the weekend, including 28 saves in the shutout win. In the series, Horak had a .959 percent save percentage and a 1.00 goals against average for the series split. Horak leads the WCHA with a 1.65 GAA and her .932 percent save percentage leads the nation. In 26 games, Horak has collected a 22-4-0 record, and she is 36-6-2 in her career.

The No. 3 Golden Gopher women's hockey team will travel to Grand Forks, N.D., for the WCHA Women's Final Five. Minnesota will play Friday, March 7, at 4:05 p.m. against Wisconsin. If the Gophers win, they move into the championship bracket and play at 7:05 p.m., Saturday. If the Gophers lose, they play again at 4:05 p.m. in the third-place game.
