Maturi Announces New University of Minnesota Administrative Team

departmenUniversity of Minnesota Director of Athletics Joel Maturi announced today his new administrative team, which is effective immediately.

"This is a major step in the unification of the two departments and while it is not the final step, it is the most significant," said Maturi. "This process has included the culmination of eight months of listening and observing in an effort to put my inheritance of two departments where I believe it can best serve University of Minnesota Athletics."

Under the new administration, Maturi will serve as the administrator for the sports of football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's hockey and volleyball. Senior Associate Athletics Director Regina Sullivan will assist Maturi with those six sports and will be the primary administrator for the 25-sport program. She will also have direct administrative responsibility for the sports of baseball, men's and women's gymnastics, rowing, soccer, softball and wrestling. Sullivan will also serve as the department's liaison to the Big Ten, WCHA and several campus organizations. Liz Eull has been promoted to the other position of senior associate athletics director. Eull will serve as the department's chief financial officer, and also oversee the athletics ticket office.

Marc Ryan was promoted to associate athletics director, where he will join fellow Associate Athletics Directors Mike Halloran and Karen Weaver. Halloran will continue as the head of the development office and will also be the primary liaison to the University's Alumni Association, the National "M" Club, and Athletics Advisory Council. Weaver will be responsible for human relations and internal management, where she will handle the department's community relations' efforts, serve as the liaison to the University Housing Office and oversee the Gophers' strength and conditioning and athletics medicine/performance enhancement programs. She also will be the administrator for the sports of men's and women's golf, men's and women's swimming & diving and men's and women's tennis. Ryan's responsibilities include overseeing the media relations department and serving as the sports administrator for men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's track & field. He will also handle the department's radio and television contract negotiations and continue in his role serving as the manager for NCAA and Big Ten Championships and special events.

Mark Coyle was promoted to assistant athletics director, joining Scott Ellison and Bob Hicks in that position. Coyle will continue to oversee the marketing department, where he will coordinate corporate sponsorships and the department's suite agreements in Williams, Mariucci and Ridder Arenas. Ellison will preside over facilities, corporate projects and event management. He will also oversee the department's spirit squad and serve as liaison to the U of M Band and Recreational Sports. Hicks will be responsible for licensing and athletics properties, and will handle all departmental contracts. He will also oversee the technological services and equipment room units.

Sue Graupman was also promoted to assistant to the athletics director, where she will work directly with Maturi on numerous projects.
