ChampionsThe Gopher-It Invite was held today at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The annual event is a "last chance" invite that allows swimmers a final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships.

"Every year, one or two swimmers qualify for the NCAA Championships from this event. Some years we have swimmers trying to qualify, however this year, we were pretty much set," commented Head Coach Dennis Dale.

Five schools were represented by swimmers. Minnesota, Purdue and Northwestern had swimmers representing the Big Ten, while swimmers from the University of Wyoming and Southwest Missouri State were also in attendance.

Ryan L'Roy swam the 1650-yard freestyle event in 15:31.14 while teammates Brian Gettelfinger and Neil Osten swam the 50-yard free in 20.95 and 21.14 respectively.

The Gopher men's divers will next compete at the NCAA Diving Zones March 14-15 in Oxford, Ohio. The NCAA Championships are slated for March 27-29 in Austin, Texas.
