Shani Marks set a new Minnesota record in the triple jump, highlighting the Gopher women as they competed at the Pepsi Invitational hosted by the University of Oregon on Saturday. Marks' first-place regional qualifier of 44 feet, 10 1/4 inches broke the previous record of 43-9 3/4 set by Christine Gulbrandsen in 2000. Marks also took first in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 59.56 seconds.

Four other Gophers earned regional qualifiers in the field events. Alean Frawley took the shot put title with a mark of 50-9 1/2, and she threw a second-place mark of 179-10 in the hammer. Nicole Kopari threw the discus 158-11 to earn second. Erica Findlay and Monica Stearns both cleared 12-5 1/2 in the pole vault to come in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Both of Minnesota's relays took home titles. The 4x100-meter team of Melissa Woltman, Marks, Elizabeth Woolford and Majik Reed ran a regional qualifier of 45.91 and the 4x400 relay of Marks, Rachel Schutz, Lisa Mickelson, and Kou Luogon finished in 3:46.69.

Woltman sprinted to a 100-meter title in 12 seconds flat. Reed finished in second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.03 but ran a 24.30 to take first in the 200 meters. Luogon clocked a 54.69 in the 400 meters, qualifying for NCAA regional competition and placing second.

Oregon took the team title with 204 points and Minnesota came in second with 172. Washington finished third with 149 and Colorado finished fourth with 100.

Minnesota competes again on April 19, when they go to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., and the University of Northern Iowa Twilight in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
