Women's Track and Field Competitors Earn Regional Standards

Shani Marks and Monica Stearns earned NCAA regional qualifying standards, highlighting Minnesota's performance on the second day of competition at the NCCU/Duke Invitational on Saturday. Marks took third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.50 seconds, and Stearns earned a mark of 12 feet in the pole vault in taking fifth.
Darja Vasiljeva led Minnesota's distance runners, posting a finish of 9:45.07 in the 3,000 meters. Carly Emil came in sixth at 10:00.94. In the sprint events, Melissa Woltman took fifth in the 100 meters, clocking in at 11.88. Elizabeth Woolford ran to a sixth-place finish of 14.40 in the 100-meter hurdles.
The relay teams both posted strong finishes. The 4x400-meter relay ran 3:48.08 to come in fourth while the 4x100 team took fifth in a 46.73 finish.
The women's track and field team next competes on Saturday, April 12. Select runners will be travelling to Oregon to compete in the Pepsi Team Invitational scheduled to start at noon at the University of Oregon. The remainder of the team will participate in the St. Thomas Invitational in St. Paul. Events are set to begin at 11 a.m at the O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
