Rowing Completes Action at Crew Classic

The boat competing in the Jessop Whittier event consisted of Katherine Nelson at coxswain, Jackie Gagner at stroke, Amber Riopel, Heidi Rose, Melissa Roche, Sam Wangsgard, Jill Peters, Beth Hornby in the second seat and Kirsten Kosloske at bow. The Gophers finished with a time of 6:52.60. Tennessee won the petite final in a time of 6:46.67, with Duke finishing second in 6:46.89.
Minnesota made the grand finals in the Women's JV event after the Gophers placed second in the heat yesterday. Minnesota finished sixth in the grand final after a tough lane draw of fifth. The Gophers ended in 7:09.52. Washington won the race in 6:48.91, followed by California in 6:50.28. Minnesota's sixth-place boat was coxswain Leah Gross, Beth Ratterman at stroke, Angela Hedin, Andrea Pierce, Mariel Gartner, Jessi Johnson, Alison Zylstra, Lora Sweezy and Lida Storch at bow.
The Gophers will take next week off to prepare for their first ever home spring race on Lake Phalen in St. Paul, Minn. The Maroon and Gold will host Big Ten's Iowa and Wisconsin April 19 in a triple dual race. Minnesota will then host for the second weekend in a row when UCLA races against the Gophers, April 26.
