Marten and Nanchy Named to NFCA All-Mideast Region Team

Marten has been spectacular in the circle for the Golden Gophers this season. The school-record holder in strikeouts with 858, Marten is 21- 12 this season with a 1.32 ERA. She struck out 14 batters today against Cal State Northridge in the NCAA Tournament to break her school single-season K record. Marten has fanned 308 batters, topping her mark of 301, set last season. A first-team All-Big Ten pick this year and a first-team All-Region honoree in 2002, Marten has notched 20 complete games, 11 shutouts and a .160 opponent batting average this season.
Nanchy had a breakout year in 2003 for the Golden Gophers. An outstanding first baseman, Nanchy is tied for the team lead with a .347 batting average. She also leads UM with 13 doubles and is tied for second with five home runs. Nanchy is on pace to break Minnesota's career putouts record. She has 1,112, placing her third on the career chart. This season, Nanchy posted a team-second-best 286 putouts. The pursuit of the record will have to wait until next season as Nanchy is out with a broken arm, suffered at Northwestern on April 20 on a hit-by-pitch. This is the first All-Region honor for Nanchy.
