Rowing Finishes Tenth in the Lexas Sprints

RThe University of Minnesota rowing team completed the two-day Lexas South/Central Region Sprints on Sunday, finishing in tenth place with nine points. Ohio State was the top finisher for the Central Region, with Virginia winning the South Region title. The Lexas Sprints were held in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

Minnesota came in fourth in the First Varsity Eight petite final. The team consisting of Kirsten Kosloske at bow, Jessi Johnson, Jill Peters, Sam Wangsgard, Melissa Roche, Heidi Rose, Amber Riopel, Jackie Gagner at stroke and Katherine Nelson as coxswain, raced to a time of 6:32.5. Iowa won the event with 6:27.2.

The Golden Gophers finished third in the Second Varsity Eight petite final. The Minnesota team of Lida Storch at bow, Lora Sweezy, Alison Zylstra, Andrea Pierce, Mariel Gartner, Beth Ratterman, Angela Hedin, Beth Hornby at stroke and Leah Gross at coxswain completed the event with a time of 6:46.9. Tennessee won the event with 6:38.3, followed by Texas at 6:42.5.

Minnesota's First Varsity Four consisting of Meghan Johnson, Jenna Buskohl, Sarah Reed, Katie Biese and Catie Hill also rowed to a fourth place finish in the grand final with a time of 7:15.8. Ohio State captured the event with 7:08.6.
