Golden Gopher Athletes To Appear At 2003 Special Olympics

Thursday,Members of various University of Minnesota athletic programs, including the entire Golden Gopher football team, will be appearing at the 2003 Special Olympics Minnesota State Summer Games on Thursday, June 19, from 12 - 3 p.m., at the University of Minnesota's Bierman Athletics Complex on the East Bank Campus.

The Gopher athletes will meet and cheer on the Special Olympics athletes and will also sign autographs in the designated Olympic Town, which is located on the band practice field east of the Bierman Track.

Over 1,000 athletes from 83 teams will compete in track & field and gymnastics events Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Special Olympics Minnesota 2003 Summer Games. The track & field competition will be held at the Bierman Athletics Complex, while the gymnastics competition will be held at the Mini-Hops Gymnastics Club in Minnetonka.

Governor Tim Pawlenty will help kick-off the event as keynote speaker for Opening Ceremonies on Thursday at the Bierman Athletics Complex.
