Luke Appert Named Second-Team All-America by CollegeBaseballInsider.com

TLuke Appert was named a Second-Team All-American by CollegeBaseballInsider.com. Appert also was named a Louisville Slugger Third-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine on May 30.

Appert, who was the first player in the Big Ten to win back-to-back Player of the Year honors since Barry Larkin in 1984-85, finished the season batting .373, with 53 runs, 45 RBI and a .476 on-base percentage. He finished fourth in the Big Ten in batting average, third in on-base percentage, third in runs scored, second in hits, ninth in RBI, first in doubles and sixth in stolen bases. The four-year starter also finished his Minnesota career in second place for career hits with 287, second place in doubles at 69, fourth in runs scored with 203, fifth in RBI at 172 and eighth in home runs with 28.

The ABCA and Baseball America All-American teams are the only two remaining All-American Teams that have not been named. Those teams will be announced later in the week. The following is a list of national awards that Golden Gophers players have collected:

Collegiate Baseball Magazine: Glen Perkins (Second-Team All-American, One of four National Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American Team), Luke Appert (Third-Team All-American).

ABCA: Glen Perkins (First-Team All-Region), Luke Appert (Second-Team All-Region), Scott Welch (Second-Team All-Region). All-Americans to be announced later in the week.
