Guyer Taken By Dallas Stars in NHL Entry Draft

joinsSophomore-to-be Gino Guyer was taken by the Dallas Stars in the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft on Sunday morning. He joins Thomas Vanek who was taken fifth overall by the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.

Guyer finished sixth in the WCHA in freshman scoring with 13 goals and 16 assists. His play down the stretch with linemates Grant Potulny and Barry Tallackson was key to Minnesota's run to a second straight NCAA Championship.

Guyer tied an NCAA Tournament record with five assists in a 9-2 win vs. Mercyhurst in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Mariucci Arena. Guyer also scored the tying goal in the NCAA Semifinal game vs. Michigan as Minnesota rallied from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 overtime victory. He also added an assist in the title game vs. New Hampshire.

A native of Coleraine, Minn., Guyer was a member of the U.S. Junior Team which reached the semifinals of the World Junior Championship in January.
