Men's Golf Wins Adams Cup

The Gophers placed four players in the top five for their first tournament victory of the year and the program's first since since last season's Big Ten Championships. Senior All-American Justin Smith (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) won the individual title with a 5-under-par score of 211 (71-69-71).
Ryan Paulson (Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels) playing in his first tournament of the year and second of his collegiate career finished second, five shots behind Smith. The sophomore carded a 68 today and finished the tournament at even-par 216. Freshman Bronson La'Cassie (Camira, Queensland/Kelvin Grove) placed third at 1-over 217 and shot a 71 in round three. Redshirt freshman John Hempstock (Colvend, Scotland/ Dumfries Academy), playing in his first collegiate tournament, finished tied for fifth at 4-over 220. Senior David Morgan (Rochester, Minn./ Robert L. Stevenson) fired a 72 today and climbed 14 places to tie for 28th at 11-over 227.
Minnesota travels to Chicago, Ill., for the Windon Memorial Classic next Mon., and Tue., Oct. 6-7. The Windon will be played at Conway Farms Golf Club, site of the 1997 NCAA Men's Golf Championships.
