The University of Minnesota women's soccer team defeated Florida Atlantic, 1-0, today in the final day of the Wildcat Classic in Evanston, Ill. Freshman forward Haley Lentsch scored her fourth goal in as many games to move the Golden Gophers to 2-1-1 this season. The school record for matches with a goal is six, set by Jennifer McElmury in the 1996 and 1997 seasons.

Lentsch tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 40th minute. Sophomore Nicki Burnie fired a shot on FAU keeper Molly Keating which came to Lentsch who got the easy put-back. Burnie gained the lone assist on the scoring play. The goal was Lentsch's first game-winner of her career, and the assist was Burnie's first point as a Golden Gopher. For the first half, Minnesota out-shot the Owls (3-2-0), 9-1, including a 6-1 shots-on-goal advantage.

Florida Atlantic stepped up its offensive efforts in the second stanza, but Minnesota withstood the attack for UM's first shut-out of the season. The Owls out-shot the Golden Gophers, 5-2, in the second half. The shutout was UM sophomore goalkeeper Karli Kopietz's first of the season and fifth of her career. She made two saves in the match.

Minnesota opened the Wildcat Classic with a 3-1 loss to Ohio. Host Northwestern went 2-0 in the event, defeating FAU, 1-0, and Ohio, 4- 0.

The Golden Gophers return to Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul on Friday, Sept. 12, to take on Western Illinois at 7 p.m.
