John Albert Provisionally Qualifies for NCAAs in High Jump

thFreshman John Albert (Bloomington, Minn.) qualified provisionally in the high jump for Minnesota at the Minnesota Open in the University Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 17. Albert qualified with a mark of 7-2 1/2 (2.20m) in the high jump.

Albert's mark was one of seven Minnesota first place finishers in the Minnesota Open. Sophomore Robb Merritt (Hopkins, Minn.) won the 600-meter dash with a time of 1:22.38, while junior Will McComb (Port Elgin, Ontario) was first in the 800-meter dash at 1:55.55.

Sophomore Karl Erickson (Zumbro Falls, Minn.) finished first in the shot put with a mark of 58-1 1/4 for Minnesota. Lynden Reder (Luverne, Minn.) captured the hammer throw with a mark of 62-9 1/2, while Steffen Landgraf (Berlin, Germany). claimed first place in the long jump at 23-0.

The 4X400 Meter Relay team capped off the meet by finishing in first with a time of 3:21.69.

Minnesota will be in action next on Saturday, Jan. 24 when it hosts the Minnesota Classic at the University Fieldhouse starting at 10:30 a.m.
