McKenzie Earns WCHA Rookie of the Week Honors

th Freshman forward Erica McKenzie earned the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Week honor for stellar performance against North Dakota this past weekend.

McKenzie opened her Gopher career scoring two goals in her first collegiate game. She scored the first goal in the Oct. 8 game against North Dakota, which proved to be the game-winning mark. She added a second goal for her first career multiple-point game. McKenzie followed her Friday performance with an assist in the 7-1 victory over UND.

The Golden Gophers open their home season this weekend at Ridder Arena. Minnesota hosts St. Cloud State, Oct. 15-16 at 7:05 p.m. In the Oct. 15 game, a banner ceremony will be held prior to the game to commemorate the 2003- 04 championship season.
