Women's Hockey Takes On Bemidji State This Weekend

GOPHERS HEAD NORTH TO BEMIDJI STATE
The No. 1 University of Minnesota women's hockey team hits the road for the second time in three series, this time facing the Bemidji State Beavers, Friday and Saturday afternoon. Both games are scheduled for a 2:05 p.m. start at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse in Bemidji, Minn.
SCORING THREATS
Minnesota's line of Natalie Darwitz, Kelly Stephens< /a> and Krissy Wendell have tallied 39 points in four games played. The trio hold the No. 1 and No. 3 spots overall scoring in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Darwitz leads the league in points (15) and assists (11), while Stephens leads the league in goals scored (7), followed by Wendell tied for second (6). Of the trio's 39 points, 21 have come on power-play attempts.
GOPHERS ON SPECIAL TEAMS
The Gophers possess a 53.6 power-play conversion percentage, scoring 15 goals in 28 chances. Minnesota scored eight power-play tallies against North Dakota, while adding seven in the St. Cloud State series. The Gophers have one of the most potent power plays in the country, ranking first in the nation. Minnesota holds three U.S. Olympians (Natalie Darwitz< /a>, Lyndsay Wall and Krissy Wendell), a Four Nations and world championship member (Kelly Stephens) and an Under-22 Canadian Camp participate (Bobbi Ross ). The Gophers also hold the 94.3 percent on the penalty kill, ranking fourth in the country. The Gophers have allowed two power-play goals, but have scored five short-handed goals on the season. Scoring short-handed tallies on the season were Darwitz, Stephens, Wendell, Ross and Andrea Nichols< /a>.
