Women's Hockey Sweeps BSU with a 5-2 Win

The Gophers tacked on the first goal of the game at 8:32 of the first period from Krissy Wendell. Ashley Albrecht wound up for the slap shot. It was saved by Beaver goalie Jill Luebke, but Wendell was there for the rebound and scored on a slap shot. The Gophers added their second goal of the game, this time on a power-play attempt. Wendell added her fifth power-play goal at 13:03 of the first. Kelly Stephens and Natalie Darwitz added the assists.
The Beavers got on board for the first time of the series at 14:27 of the first, but the Gophers added to their lead at 16:04. Bobbi Ross fired in a wrist shot, while Andrea Nichols added a single assist.
The Beavers put the game back to a one-goal deficit at 1:42 of the second period. However, the Gophers added a goal of their own at 4:12 of the second period from Becky Wacker. Nichols fired for a shot that was saved, while Wacker finished the play on a rebound shot for her third goal of the season. Allie Sanchez was also credited with an assist.
The Gophers added to their lead in the third when Stephens scored a power-play goal at 6:02. Wendell started the play passing it to Darwitz who took the shot. The initial shot was stopped, but Stephens was there to poke in the rebound.
Minnesota finished with 47 shots on goal to BSU's 18. The Gophers were 1-for-4 on the power play. Brenda Reinen picked up her second win of the season, sitting at 2-0-0.
The Gophers will be on the road for the third time in four weeks as they head to Mankato, Minn., to take on Minnesota State, Oct. 29-30. Both games are slated for a 7:05 p.m. start at the All Seasons Arena.
