Gopher Women's Hockey Ranked No. 1 in Preseason Poll

foThe University of Minnesota women's hockey team earned the top ranking in the U.S. College Hockey Online Preseason Poll, announced today by USCHO. The Golden Gophers earned all 15-first place votes for a sweep over the remaining teams. The poll is compiled by U.S. College Hockey Online, and consists of 15 voters, including 12 coaches of Division I programs and three women's hockey writers.

Minnesota came off an impressive 30-4-2 season last year and won the NCAA and WCHA Championship titles. Dartmouth followed second in the polls, while Wisconsin was ranked third. Minnesota-Duluth was ranked sixth, while Ohio State and Minnesota State earned votes. In all, five of the eight Western Collegiate Hockey Association teams were represented in the preseason poll.

The defending national champions open the 2004-05 season on the road at WCHA foe North Dakota, Oct. 8-9. The two teams square off at the Ralph Engelstad Arena at 7:05 p.m. both games.
