11/16/2004 12:00:00 AM | Women's Basketball

Jamie Broback led the Gophers (1-1) with 18 points, while Shannon Schonrock chipped in 12 points. Both Broback and Schonrock were named to the all-tournament team.

The game was deadlocked at 58-58 heading into overtime. Minnesota won the tip to start the extra period but missed a shot and Liz Podominick was whistled for a foul on the rebound. Washington's Cameo Hicks hit both free throws and the Huskies would never again relinquish the lead.

Washington (2-0) built a six-point lead in overtime with a Hicks jumper at the 1:10 mark and make the score 69-63. The Gophers fought back and had a chance to tie the score but Broback's three-point attempt from the top of the key was long. Washington's Jill Bell grabbed the rebound and was fouled, added two points to the winning margin with less than a second on the time clock.

Minnesota led the entire first half, and as much as by 10 points at 20-10, ten minutes into the game. The Huskies battled back to within 30-27 at halftime, benefiting from 15 Gopher turnovers. The Gophers went 9-of-11 from the free throw line in the first half, while Washington was just 3-of-8 from the line in the half.

The Huskies took their first lead of the game on a Maggie O'Hara lay-in at 35-34 with 14:28 left in regulation. The score changed hands four times in the remainder of the second half. Schonrock's three-pointer from the top of the key gave Minnesota its final lead at 58-56 with 1:38 remaining. Breanne Watson drove to the basket and was fouled by Broback and hit two free throw to force the overtime period.

Broback finished with her first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Schonrock added 12, including a trio of three-pointers. Podominick chipped in 10 points.

The Gopher loss breaks a 31-game loss in regular-season non-conference games.

Minnesota plays host to the Subway Basketball Classic on Nov. 19-20 in its next action. The Gophers play Arkansas State on Friday at 8 p.m.
