WHK: Wendell Named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week

Wendell, a native of Brooklyn Park, Minn., scored three goals and assisted on another for four points in each of the No. 1-ranked Golden Gophers' victories over the weekend. A 2003 first-team All-American, and WCHA Player of the Year, Wendell had three goals and an assist for four points in the 8-1, Nov. 26 win over Northeastern. She followed with yet another hat trick and set up a goal in the 5-3 victory over host Harvard last Saturday. In addition to her six goals and two assists in two road games, Wendell scored on six of her nine shots on goal (.667 shooting percentage) and earned a +4 plus/minus rating. Of her six goals, two were goals were short-handed, while two were power- play goals. She leads the team and the nation with six short-handed goals, while tied for first with teammates Lyndsay Wall and Kelly Stephens in power- play goals with eight.
The Golden Gophers travel to Madison, Wis., to take on the No. 4 Wisconsin Badgers, Dec. 4-5. Both contests start at 2:05 p.m., at the Kohl Center. Minnesota then finishes the first semester at No. 2 Dartmouth, Dec. 11-12.
