VB: Minneapolis NCAA Volleyball Regional Matchups Set

On Friday, Dec. 10 Ohio State will take on Tennessee, and Minnesota will play Georgia Tech. The winners of the two matches will play in the Regional Finals, for the right to advance to the Final Four, on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. That match will also be telecast live on CSTV. Match times for the Regional Semifinals will be announced on Monday, Dec. 6.
Minnesota will enter NCAA Regional play with a 30-4 overall record, after defeating Long Island in the first round and Yale in the second round at New Haven, Conn. It is the Golden Gophers fifth regional appearance in the past six seasons.
Earlier in the day, Georgia Tech upset the No. 4 seed UC Santa Barbara in three games in Atlanta, Ga. The Yellow Jackets had defeated Georgia in three games in the first round. Georgia Tech will enter the NCAA Regionals with a 27-6 overall record.
Ohio State defeated Ohio University in three games to advance to the NCAA Regionals for the third time in four seasons. The Buckeyes had defeated Dayton in three games in the first round of the tournament. Ohio State enters regional play with a 29-3 overall record.
Tennessee defeated Texas A&M in four games to advance to the NCAA Regionals. The Lady Vols had defeated Winthrop in three games in the first round. Tennessee will enter regional play with a 32-2 overall record.
Minnesota's matchup with Georgia Tech is a rematch of the second round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament at the Sports Pavilion. In that match, the Golden Gophers won a hard fought four-game second round match to advance to the NCAA Regionals.
The Golden Gophers will have the remainder of their NCAA Tournament matches broadcast on WMGT (1220 AM) out of Stillwater. The matches will also be webcast on gophersports.com.
