Junior center Janel McCarville posted her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as No. 12/12 Minnesota was defeated 57-47 at Michigan on Sunday. The Golden Gophers end their regular season with a 20-7 overall record, 9-7 and sixth in the Big Ten standings. Penn State defeated Purdue today to capture the conference title outright.
The Gophers fell behind 10-0 to start the game and never led. Minnesota closed to within five points at 52-47 on a three-point field goal by Shannon Schonrock with 1:20 left but as Michigan made five free throws down the stretch.
Schonrock was the only other Gopher in double figures scoring with 13 points, including a trio of three-point baskets. McCarville added a career-high seven steals.
Minnesota owns the No. 6 seed in next week's Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis and play No. 11 seed Northwestern on Thursday.
