In the first game against Prairie View, Minnesota exploded for five runs in the third inning, including Rachel Keeney's two-run triple, and held on for the one-run victory. Senior Piper Marten earned the save.
Marten started the second game against Corpus Christi and pitched the complete-game, two-hit shutout. She struck out 10 Islanders and earned her seventh complete game in as many starts.
With the game tied at regulation, Minnesota scored the eventual game-winner in the top of the ninth. With a runner on third, freshman Megan Higginbotham hit a sharp grounder to short and Stephanie Sward beat the throw home for the go-ahead run.
Minnesota will next compete at the National Invitational in San Jose, Calif., March 11-16.
