Women's Tennis Falls 6-1 at Purdue

BigThe University of Minnesota women's tennis team lost 6-1 today to Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., winning its lone two matches at No. 1 singles and doubles. Minnesota is now 2-8 overall and 0-3 in Big Ten.

The Golden Gophers opened the dual with a 1-2 record in doubles play. Minnesota's top duo of Angela Buergis and Nischela Reddy earned the Maroon and Gold's lone win with an 8-6 triumph over Gretchen Haynor and Melissa Woods.

In singles action, Buergis was the only Golden Gopher to come away with a win. She dispatched Haynor, 6-1, 6-3, to improve to 11-3 in the spring and 3-0 in the conference. Minnesota lost two other singles matches via super-tiebreakers as Reddy fell to Hala Sufi at No. 2 and Ida Malmberg lost to Shawna Zuccarini at No. 4.

The Golden Gophers return home next weekend to host Michigan State and Michigan on April 3 & 4, at the Baseline Tennis Center.
