It is also the third time a Minnesota player has claimed the honors this season in the nine weeks it has been given out this season, which is the most by any team in the Big Ten this year.
Steidl led the Golden Gophers to three wins in Indiana batting .563 with six runs and RBI. He also had a .650 on-base percentage in the four-game conference series. Steidl had two hits or more in each of the five games last week, as he tallied 11 hits for the week.
Heading into the week, Steidl is fifth on the Minnesota career hit list with 267. He is also 33 hits away from becoming only the second Golden Gopher to amass 300 hits in his career. Robb Quinlan is the only Minnesota player with 300 hits in a career at 345. Steidl is also fifth on the career stolen base list with 54 career steals.
Steidl leads the Big Ten in batting average at .409 this season and is second in the conference in runs scored at 30. He is also third in stolen bases in the Big Ten with 11 on the season. Steidl also becomes the first Big Ten player to claim the honors on multiple occasions this season.
Minnesota will be back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 14 at 3 p.m. The Golden Gophers will then resume Big Ten action on Friday, Apr. 16 against Penn State at 3 p.m. Minnesota will play a doubleheader against the Nittany Lions on Saturday, Apr. 17 at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, Apr. 18 at 12 noon.
