Men's Golf Team Selected For Central Regional

CoThe Minnesota men's golf team received an at-large selection to the 2004 NCAA Division I Golf Championships. The Gophers will be the No. 4 seed in the Central Regional at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind., on May 20-22. The top 10 teams will advance to the NCAA Division I Golf Championships on June 1-4 at Cascades Golf Course, The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.

Minnesota finished third in the Big Ten Championships last weekend, but is the highest seeded Big Ten team in the Central Regional. In all, six Big Ten teams made the regional field including five in the Central Region. Along with the fourth-seeded Gophers, Illinois is seeded 17th, Ohio State 18th, Purdue 19th and Indiana 22nd. Penn State will play in the East Regional in New Haven, Conn., they are seeded 19th.

Last season, the Gophers finished seventh in the Central Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the sixth straight year. Minnesota is one of only six schools to play in the last six NCAA Championships. The others are Arizona, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma State.
