NCAA Regional Qualifiers
Both the Golden Gopher men's and women's team are positioning themselves for a run at postseason competition. For the second season, four regional championships will feed into the national championship meet on June 9-12 in Austin, Texas. Minnesota will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional in College Station, Texas, on May 28-29. Other regional sites are in Gainesville, Fla. (East Regional), Baton Rouge, La. (Mid-East Regional) and Northridge, Calif. (West Regional).
The Golden Gopher men's team has qualified 23 athletes in a total of 15 events. The women's team has six athletes qualified in five events.
Championships History - Men
Minnesota has won four men's titles in its history (1949, `68, `98, `99, `03) and none in more dominating fashion than in 2003 when the Golden Gopher compiled a meet-record team score of 168.5 points.
Minnesota and Wisconsin have combined to win the last nine championships. The last team other than the Gophers or Badgers to capture a league title was Illinois in 1994. Minnesota's victory a year ago snapped a three-year Wisconsin winning streak.
Michigan has won the most men's team titles with 30, but has not captured a crown since 1983.
Championships History - Women
Michigan is the two-time defending champion in the women's outdoor meet. While the last nine years have seen only two different men's teams win a Big Ten outdoor title, five women's teams have won crowns in that stretch.
Wisconsin has won the most women's team titles with eight, but the Badgers have not taken home the team gold since 1997. Minnesota is one of four teams (Ohio State, Iowa and Penn State the others) to have yet to capture a Big Ten outdoor track & field title.
