Marten Earns Third-Team All-Big Ten Softball Honors

The Big Ten Conference has announced that senior pitcher Piper Marten has earned third-team all-league honors. Marten has earned all-league honors in each of her four seasons at Minnesota. The Golden Gophers will open Big Ten play on Friday afternoon against Northwestern in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Marten leads the Golden Gophers with a 21-12 record with a 0.90 ERA. She has 251 strikeouts in 209 innings of work. Marten has 25 complete games in 29 starts this season. In Big Ten games, she earned nine of the Golden Gophers' 10 wins and finished second in the conference with 102 strikeouts in 99.1 innings.

Earlier this season, Marten became just the fourth pitcher in Big Ten history to reach 1,000 career strikeouts. She currently ranks third in league history and 14th in Division I history with 1,112 career strikeouts. Marten is Minnesota's all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, complete games, innings and appearances.

Marten earned first-team All-Big Ten honors last season as a junior and third-team all-league honors following her sophomore and freshman seasons.
