The Golden Gopher softball game vs. Northwestern in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament has been postponed until Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern. Minnesota leads 2-0 and is batting in the top of the seventh inning. The game was delayed in the first inning for 70 minutes and in the seventh inning for 41 minutes.

Minnesota scored two runs in the fifth inning on an RBI single from Valerie Alston and on a throwing error by NU pitcher Eileen Canney. The Wildcats loaded the bases in the sixth with one out. With two outs, NU catcher J.C. Kira popped up to third base. The ball dropped, but Kira didn't run out the play and was thrown out at first to end the inning.

The game was delayed 70 minutes in the first inning.

The winner of this game will face eighth-seeded Michigan State in a semifinal matchup. That game was originally scheduled for tonight and will be played tomorrow afternoon. The first semifinal between Illinois and Ohio State will begin following the conclusion of the Minnesota-Northwestern game.

The Golden Gophers are looking to continue the trend of upsets in the tournament. Sixth-seeded Ohio State topped No. 3 Iowa, 5-1, earlier today. Eighth-seeded Michigan State upset top-seeded Michigan, 5-1, last night.
