5/26/2004 12:00:00 AM | Baseball
Minnesota, who is the No. 1 seed for a third straight season, will take on the No. 5 seeded Purdue Boilermakers on Thursday, May 27 at approximately 7:05 p.m. That matchup will be preceded by No. 4 Michigan State against No. 6 Penn State at 12:05 p.m., and No. 2 Ohio State against No. 3 Michigan at approximately 3:35 p.m.
By virtue of being the No. 1 seed, Minnesota drew the lowest seeded winner of the first two games in No. 5 Purdue. No. 2 Ohio State drew the higher seed winner in No. 3 Michigan. No. 4 Michigan State will take on No. 6 Penn State in a matchup that will send one team home with two losses for the tournament.
The Golden Gophers won three of four against Purdue on Apr. 30-May 2, but dropped the series finale against the Boilermakers. Minnesota has won 11 of the last 12 games against Purdue, but dropped the last meeting between the two teams in the Big Ten Tournament 6-1 on May 19, 2000.
The winner of the Michigan State-Penn State game will face the lowest seeded loser of the other two games on Friday, May 28 at 12:05 p.m. The winner of that game would face the highest seeded loser from the Ohio State-Michigan and Minnesota-Purdue games. The winners of the Ohio State-Michigan and Minnesota-Purdue games will play each other on Friday, May 28 at approximately 7:05 p.m.
