University of Minnesota senior gymnast Mary Skokut has been named one of 10 student-athletes selected to the 2003-04 Academic All-District V University Division Women's At-Large Team, which was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To qualify for Academic All-District recognition, student-athletes must hold at least sophomore status in their university, own a grade-point average of 3.2, and be either a starter or key reserve for their respective team.
Earlier this month, Skokut was awarded one of 58 postgraduate scholarships of $7,500 each by the NCAA to 29 men and 29 women who participated in winter sports. Last season Skokut earned the rare distinction of becoming a four-time first team All-Big Ten honoree in 2004. She became only the third Gopher to accomplish the feat, and the first since Mindy Knaeble earned the distinction from 1995-98.
