Monica Stearns of Wadena and Lynden Reder of Luverne, were named the USATF Minnesota Athletes of the Month.

The Minnesota seniors both bettered their own Golden Gopher school records during competition in the month of April. Stearns broke the record three times and ultimately became the first Gopher to clear 13-feet in the pole vault. Her winning height of 13-0 1/4 won the Macalester Invitational on April 24 and stands as the current Minnesota record.

Reder has made a career of improving his own school record in the hammer throw. On April 10, Reder tossed a record throw of 209-1 to win the event at the Pepsi Team Invitational in Oregon. He shared Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week honors for his accomplishment. Reder has already outdone his performance in April by resetting the record for the seventh time of his career on May 1, winning the St. Thomas Invitational with a throw of 215-9.
