Mee became the first Minnesota freshman to knock in 50 or more runs in a season since Terry Steinbach drove in 51 in 1981 as a freshman. Mee batted .319, with six home runs, 53 RBI, 44 runs, 16 doubles and 74 hits in his redshirt freshman season for the Golden Gophers.
As a freshman, Mee finished third in the Big Ten in RBI (53), 10th in hits (74), tied for 10th in doubles (16) and tied for sixth in walks (28). Mee was also named Second-Team All-Big Ten joining Hunter and Perkins as one of three Golden Gophers to be named second-team All-Big Ten or higher as a freshman the last two years.
Mee made an immediate impact for Minnesota, as he was named to Dairy Queen Classic All-Tournament team in just his second week in a Golden Gophers uniform.
He finished the season second on the team in RBI, tied for third in home runs, fourth in hits and second in on-base percentage. Mee also tied four other teammates for the lead in games played with 60, and was second on the team with 59 starts.
