Both the men's and women's hockey teams will train year-round, utilizing the skating treadmill and the Acceleration Program which is provided by the metro-based company Acceleration Minnesota (www.accelerationmn.com)
"The skating treadmill and Acceleration Program is great for developing a longer, more powerful and explosive skating stride for our players," Head Men's Hockey Coach Don Lucia said. "We have installed it in our training center and will use it on a regular basis as it becomes the cornerstone of our training."
"Use of the skating treadmill and the Acceleration Program will focus on skating mechanics which will improve our overall team speed and skating of each player," Laura Halldorson, Head Women's Hockey Coach of the 2004 NCAA Champions, said. "We expect the Acceleration Program to become an integral part of our training and hopefully will enable us to defend our title."
"I've seen a variety of training programs for hockey and none compares to the expected results than from the program offered by Acceleration Minnesota," Cal Dietz, the strength and conditioning coach for men's and women's hockey teams, said. "I have extensively reviewed the data collected from the skating treadmill and am convinced it is the best training tool for our players at the University."
The Acceleration Minnesota Sports Training Centers are currently operating in five metro locations - Arden Hills, Eden Prairie, Plymouth, Oakdale and Apple Valley. The Acceleration Program utilizes the same patented skating treadmill program for hockey players from youth to the professional level.
