Golden Gopher Wrestling Announces 2004-05 Schedule

- 2004-05 Golden Gopher Wrestling Schedule
The University of Minnesota wrestling team has released its schedule for the 2004-05 campaign. The Golden Gophers will host six dual meets on the season, including a matchup with two-time defending NCAA Champion Oklahoma State on Dec. 5 at the Sports Pavilion. Minnesota defeated the top-ranked Cowboys, 17-16, last year in Stillwater, Okla.
The season opens with a trio of tournaments beginning with the Bison Open in Fargo, N.D., on Nov. 13. Minnesota will compete in the UNO Open on Nov. 20, followed by the Mat-Town USA Invitational in Lock Haven, Pa. In addition to Minnesota's matchup vs. Oklahoma State, the Golden Gophers will face Arizona State, Nebraska and Iowa State in road non-conference dual meets. Minnesota will also host Northern Iowa on Sunday, Dec. 12, in Rochester, Minn. For the second straight year, the Golden Gophers will compete in the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, N.C., Dec. 29-30.
Following the National Duals in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 22-23, the Golden Gophers open the Big Ten season with a home dual versus Michigan State on Jan 28. Minnesota hosts a total of four conference meets this season, all at the Sports Pavilion. The Big Ten Championships are March 5-6, in Iowa City, Iowa, and the NCAA Championships take place March 17-19, in St. Louis, Mo.
The Golden Gophers return eight starters from a year ago, led by All-American heavyweight Cole Konrad. Minnesota will also be bolstered by the nation's top-ranked freshman class which redshirted the 2003-04 season.
