Mack Reiter, C.P. Schlatter and Roger Kish combined to win four gold medals at the Junior Pan-Am Championships in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Reiter was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler, while Kish was the lone grappler to win titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. The trio will be redshirt freshmen for the Golden Gophers this season.

Reiter dominated the freestyle competition at 60 kilos with five straight wins. He earned falls in his final three matches, including a pin in just 20 seconds in the quarterfinals against Guatemala's Juan Fasando and in 21 seconds in the semifinals against Venezuela's Bladimir Hernandez. Reiter took the silver medal at 60 kilos in Greco-Roman.

The nation's top recruit in 2003, Kish cruised to the title in freestyle, and then defeated Puerto Rico's Juan Cintron, 12-1, in the finals at 84 kilos in Greco-Roman.

Schlatter took the gold medal at 74 kilos in Greco-Roman, but withdrew from the freestyle competition due to injury.

The Junior Pan American Championships were held in lieu of the World Championships, which are not contested during Olympic years. Minnesota's three wrestlers made up nearly half of the seven-member U.S. squad.
