AUniversity of Minnesota Athletics Director Joel Maturi announced today changes to his senior management team, which include adjustments to sports administration assignments and the appointment of an Associate Athletics Director for External Relations. In addition, Maturi announced that the Media Relations unit would be renamed Athletics Communications. The changes are the result of the department's two-year strategic planning process and Maturi's vision for a consistent external message under one athletics department.

"The changes we have made are a direct reflection of our lengthy and intense strategic planning process during the last two years," Maturi said. "The efforts of our outside consultant and employees of the athletics department have brought closure to the merger of the men's and women's departments. We are moving forward as one department with the goal of providing our student- athletes the best opportunity to represent the University, the great state of Minnesota and the thousands of fans that follow Golden Gopher athletics."

Maturi made significant changes in the area of sports administration for the 25 Golden Gopher sports programs. Marc Ryan, Associate Athletics Director for Championships and Sports Administration, will provide daily administration for the Golden Gopher football program. Regina Sullivan, Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator will increase her responsibilities as the sports administrator for the volleyball and men's and women's basketball programs. Elizabeth Eull will continue her role as the department's Senior Associate Athletics Director and the department's chief financial office, but will also serve as the sports administrator for the Golden Gopher men's and women's hockey programs.

"I am excited about the structure and the opportunity to work with such a talented and dedicated management team," Maturi said. "The external nature of intercollegiate athletics requires a tremendous amount of my time. I am fortunate to have an administration that will provide the daily supervision to the six programs that have traditionally reported to me."

Maturi promoted Mark Coyle from Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Sales to the role of Associate Athletics Director for External Relations. Coyle will be responsible for overseeing corporate sponsorship and suite sales of Gopher Sports Properties, marketing and promotions, athletics communications, video services, the ticket office, licensing and gophersports.com.

Ellison will continue his role of event management, scheduling, and facility management. His new duties will involve serving as the sport administrator for the men's and women's golf teams and the men's and women's tennis programs.

In addition to overseeing the men's and women's hockey programs, Eull will add additional responsibilities that include handling the department's human resources, Office Staff Council, new employee orientation, staff education and diversity training. She will also oversee several of the department's support units, including athletic medicine, strength and conditioning, the equipment room and technology services.

She will increase her administrative responsibilities by working with the Office of Housing and the Office of Judicial Affairs. Ryan will continue his role of coordinating the department's championship events, while serving as the sports administrator for the men's and women's cross country and the men's and women's track & field programs. Along with football, Ryan will have additional sports administrator responsibilities by overseeing the men's and women's swimming & diving programs.

Mike Halloran will continue as the department's development officer and will oversee all fundraising activities for 25 Golden Gopher sports, as well as, being the liaison to the U of M Foundation. Halloran's job responsibilities also include managing the department's annual fund drive, major gifts, donor events and special activities.
