Shani Marks Advances to Triple Jump Finals at Olympic Trials

Riter placed 16th in the 800-meter run to advance to Saturday's semi-final. He posted a time of 1 minute, 47.99 seconds, which is faster than the Gopher school record. Henkels, who completed his Gopher career in 2003, also advanced in the 800 meters, placing 14th in a time of 1:47.60.
The Gophers' star triple jumper from 2003, Marks was fourth in the qualifying round of the event with a distance of 44 feet, 8 1/4 inches. Marks will compete for one of the three spots on the Olympic team in the finals on Sunday.
Also competing on Friday was Gopher thrower Karl Erickson in the shot put. Erickson placed 13th in the qualifying round with an effort of 60-6 1/2. The top 12 advanced to Saturday's final. Erickson will also compete in the discus next week.
