The NCAA champion University of Minnesota women's hockey team has released its schedule for the 2004-05 campaign. The Golden Gophers will host eight regular-season series at Ridder Arena and the 2005 Western Collegiate Hockey Association Championship, March 3-6. It is the second straight season Minnesota has hosted the conference championship since the league's inception in 1999-2000.
Minnesota opens the regular season on the road against WCHA opponent, North Dakota, Oct. 8-9, while hosting St. Cloud State, Oct. 15-16. The Gophers' toughest stretch of the season starts with a home series against Minnesota-Duluth, Nov. 19-20. The team then travels to Cambridge, Mass., to compete in the Harvard Thanksgiving Tournament, Nov. 26-27. Minnesota faces Northeastern on the 26th, followed by a re-match of the 2004 national championship game against Harvard, Nov. 27. The Maroon and Gold continues their road quest against Wisconsin (Dec. 4-5) and Dartmouth (Dec. 11-12) to finish the first half of the season. Minnesota opens the second semester at home against WCHA opponent Bemidji State, Jan. 7-8, and will play five conference series in the second half of the season.
The NCAA has extended the championship field to eight teams in the duration of two weekends. With a quarterfinal weekend, March 18-20 (site and location to be determined), the winning teams will advance to the Frozen Four, March 25 & 27 in Durham, N.H.
